The completed Entry Form ( Download) must be sent to the Honey Show Secretary whose name is listed below. It may be sent by:

  1. Post

  2. e mail

  3. Handed in on the evening that exhibits are delivered.

See the front page for cut off times.

Postal or e mail entries are preferred since it gives the Secretary time to prepare the entry labels and cards.

Entries handed with the exhibits cause a great deal of difficulty and members are requested to avoid this method of entry.

NOTES for EXHIBITORS

a. HONEY (Light, Medium Dark)

To ensure that honey is entered in the correct class, Standard Grading Glasses may be borrowed from the Show Secretary free of charge. They MUST BE RETURNED PROMPTLY. For Honey that is entered in the wrong class see RULE5.

b. MEAD (Sweet & Dry)

The volume of mead should almost fill a 'high- shouldered Bordeaux' type 750 ml bottle, leaving an air space of less than 25 mm to the bottom of the cork seal. The bottle must be of a plain, undecorated design and made of clear  (transparent) glass in order to reveal the clarity and colour of the mead. White flanged cork stoppers should be used. These have enlarged heads and allow easy withdrawal and reseal of the bottle by hand.

c. COMB

Only shallow comb may be submitted, An appropriate presentation case must be used.  The Association has two cases, which may be borrowed from the Show Secretary. 

d.  CABANA SECTIONS

Commercially sized circular 'cabana' sections may be entered as an alternative to square shaped sections. They MUST be at least 8-oz minimum weight.

e.  SHOW CAKE 

Standard recipe: 

 5 oz  Clear Honey

 4 oz  Butter or Margarine

 2  x No 3 Eggs

  ¾ Tablespoon of water

 3 oz  Brown sugar

 6 oz   Self Raising Flour

Warm butter, sugar, water and honey together over a low heat, stirring until blended. Cool to hand warmth. Then beat in eggs and sift flour. Blend fully. Bake in the centre of the oven using a well buttered and lined tin at Gas mark 4 (350oF) for 35-40 mins, or at Gas mark 2 ((325 oF) for 1 hour

NB The cake must be between 160mm & 205mm  (6" & 8") in diameter.

 

f. DELIVERY of EXHIBITS - Exhibitors who are unable to deliver their exhibits in the Friday evening must make an arrangement for it to be delivered on their behalf. 

g. ENTRY FEES - An exhibitor with one or more entries in Class 1 &/or 2 (Gift class) will not be required to pay an entry fee for any of the other classes (i.e. Class 3 -17) and may enter up to three exhibits per class.

An exhibitor with no entries in Class 1 or 2 must pay an entry fee is 50p per class. and may enter up to three exhibits per class.

h. EXHIBIT LABELS - Labels are to be stuck on the side of honey jars with the bottom edge of the label ½ inch above from the bottom of the jar (i.e. ½ “ above surface on which it stands)

i. HIVE RECORDS - Original hive records for this calendar year, for all the hives owned by the exhibitor. Re-written records 

will not be acceptable.

j. WEIGHT - All honey entries in jars must weigh at least  1 lb ,excluding the weigh of the jar and lid.

 

RULES & REGULATIONS

1. All honey and wax exhibited must be the property of the exhibitor and must have been gathered from bees of the Exhibitor. Only amateur bee keepers are eligible to exhibit. Heather and heather-blended honey is excluded.

2. Except where otherwise specified, all bottled honey must be exhibited in clear identical 1 lb. squat jars of Min. of Agriculture pattern, with gold commercial lacquered screw tops.

3. Sections must be glazed or laced to 31/2" x 31/2" glass or comb clear of paper edging. 1 lb. sections 5" x 4" may be entered if glazed. Lacing not to extend beyond  " from edge of the comb. Round or square shaped sections of 8-oz min weight can be entered. (See NOTE d)

4. Exhibitors may enter more than one exhibit in one Class, but not take more than one award in that Class

5. Only stewards are allowed to stage, and remove or transfer entries found to be wrongly entered to the appropriate class.

6. The Judge, whose decision is final, is empowered to withhold awards in the case of insufficient merit.

7. The show committee reserves the right to refuse any entry, to submit an exhibit for analysis and to dispose of honey which may have become damaged at a reasonable price or to return it to the Exhibitor. If any portion of a consignment of honey sent for exhibition is found to be adulterated then the whole exhibit shall be forfeited.

8. A completed entry form and a stamped self addressed envelope must be with the Show secretary 5 full days before the show commences. (See Back of entry form for details)

9. Entries must be delivered to the STABLEROOM between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. of the Friday before the show. & collected after the prize giving.

10. Whilst every care will be taken of exhibits, no responsibility can be accepted for their loss or damage. 

11. The judge may at his/her discretion award, the following certificates for each Class in the show:

12. Judging for ‘Trophies & Awards’ are takes place at the end of the show  in the order shown on the page listing the trophies.

 

13. When a trophy is delivered into a winners keeping, it’s security becomes the winners responsibility.

 (i.e. insurance & replacement with a like trophy if it is lost or stolen)

14. A beekeepers name and contact details will be displayed on the Associations web  as a honey supplier for the ensuing year, if the honey  exhibited in  Class 1-6 is of salable quality
